Proverbs 8:33 — “Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it.”

Spiritual neglect is often our greatest spiritual danger. For instance, how do you destroy a garden? A relationship? A campfire? A home? Just neglect it.

I have a friend named John who is a retired pilot with Delta. John once explained to me the “1-60” rule. It’s a standard rule in air navigation. It states that for every 1 degree a plane veers off course, it misses it’s target destination by 1 mile for every 60 miles you fly. It’s a warning of how just a little neglect can take you way off course.

But this 1-60 rule can also serve as an encouragement for how to get back on track. A 1 degree turn back in the right direction can bring about amazing results over time. It reminds us that what’s most important isn’t where you currently are, but where you are currently facing.

The same thing works in our spiritual walk with the Lord. Which way is my heart facing today? Am I turning my back on sin or on God? What 1 degree shift can I make in my walk with God today? What area needs my attention? Lord, keep me from the underestimated sin of spiritual apathy and neglect.
