“He Went About Doing Good”

Acts 10:38

The Christian life is meant to be marked by both purpose and positivity. We see both of these marks in this little description of Jesus’ life – “He went about doing good” (Acts 10:38).

Purpose: It doesn’t say that Jesus simply “went about.” Jesus moved through life with a clear purpose—to do good. How many of us are merely “going about” our days, forgetting that our mission, like Jesus’, is to actively do good for our fellow human travelers? So, what impactful action can you take in this moment? How can you fully seize the opportunity of your current situation and resources to uplift others?

Positivity: It also doesn’t say that Jesus “went about avoiding evil.” Notice, the description of his life is put in the positive. Did Jesus avoid certain things? Of course. But his avoidance was in order to achieve—to serve the larger purpose of doing good. All of his ‘nos’ came about because he had a bigger and better ‘yes!’

Likewise, our aim goes beyond merely “doing no harm”; it’s to be of great help to others. More often than not, if we just focus on the positive actions we need to take, the negative actions we need to avoid will take care of themselves.

Let’s take these two marks into each day with us—purpose and positivity—and like Jesus, let us go about our days doing good.
